FAQ digital key

How do I register my phone to use it as a key?

No sooner than 2 weeks before the start of your lease, you will receive an email allowing you to register your phone as a digital key. Save the code in your email, which you can use later to re-register.

 

How does it work?

Your phone is the digital key to your building, general doors, your home (not at Stepstone) and storerooms (if any). After succesfully registering in the Lieven de Key app you will find a door icon in the black bar at the bottom of the app. 

How do I open the lock with the black knob?

You have to scan the black button with your phone. The phone has to touch the button. The NFC chip in your phone gives a little bit of power to the lock. So make sure you offer the phone properly. Once you have gained access, you then have to manually turn the knob to the right or left to open (or close) the lock. Depending on whether the lock is on the left or right of the door. Where can I find the pin code for the pin pads?

Only Stepstone has this option. After registering your phone, you can find your PIN on the "  My digital key" page. To use the PIN: click in 5 digits followed by #

 

Can I open the pin pads with my phone?

Yes, you can open the pinpad, just like the locks with the black round buttons, with your phone. Scan the area with the wifi logo on the pin pad.

 

Do I need an internet connection to open the locks?

No, you don't need to be connected to the internet to open your door. If internet is very limited, you can also switch to "flight mode" to open your door.

 

What if my battery is dead?

Try to avoid draining your phone completely. If it does, chargers are available at most buildings. You only need a few %. Also, a keyfriend can let you in. 

How do I know which dates I have access to?

On the " My digital key" page you can see from when to when you have access. This information is only visible if your phone is registered.

 

My app or key no longer works!

iPhone first reboot your phone and try again.
Still not or Android? Delete your app, re-download the latest app version and register again.
Still not there? If you are locked out your  keyfriend can let you in and then use the chat button at the top of this page.

 

My phone is broken/does not support NFC
If your phone is broken or if your phone does not support NFC (we will check) you can get a temporary keyfob through your building caretaker or the RA's. Appointment required, please contact via their e-mail.
