Prepare your departure

 

Prior to checking out of your room, please ensure that you empty your room and follow the departure instructions provided in the app. Your caretaker will share more detailed information for your building a few weeks before the end of your lease.

 

If you plan to depart weeks before your lease end date, please inform your caretaker via email. About six weeks before the end of your lease, you will receive a notification to report your planned departure date/check-out date through your keyless account. This is a necessary step in the departure process to share with your caretaker (and RA's).

 

After your check-out, we will check, clean, and prepare the room for the new semester. Access to the room is no longer possible for the tenant and key friends. The deposit will be processed as soon as possible (but not earlier than two weeks after your final lease date).

 

When leaving your room/apartment:

  • Remove all personal items and garbage. Only items listed on the Lieven de Key inventory list should remain in the room. Do not leave them in common areas; charges may apply.
  • Remove all bedding from the welcome package (excluding the mattress) and either take it with you or dispose of it in the textile container.
  • Remove garbage from your room, communal areas, hallways.
  • If you brought in furniture or other large items that don’t fit in waste containers, it's considered bulky waste. Dispose of it at the Waste Collection Centre (Afvalpunt) or follow the City of Amsterdam's guidelines for curbside disposal.
  • If you have a set of keys, mailbox key, or key fob, please return them to Lieven De Key (caretaker mailbox) in an envelope/paper with your room number on it before the end of your tenancy.
  • Please lower the heating in your room before your departure.

 

Cleaning a shared room: 

If you live in a shared room, both you and your roommate are responsible for cleaning the room together. Costs for an unclean shared room will be divided between you and your roommate. Clean together before the first roommate leaves.

 

Cleaning shared facilities: 

If you share a kitchen, bathroom, or toilet, both you and your roommate/neighbors are responsible for cleaning together. Costs for unclean shared facilities will be divided. Clean together before the first roommate/neighbor leaves.

 

Inventory

Ensure all inventory items are cleaned, assembled, and visible for inspection. Report broken or missing items at least two weeks before you leave. Costs for dirty, disassembled, missing, or damaged items on the inspection day will be deducted from your deposit. If you live in a shared room, both you and your roommate are responsible for the inventory, and costs will be divided.

 

Bicycles: 

Remove your bicycle from the bike shed or leave it unlocked for easy removal.
